Top Five Summer Activities in Vermont

Vermont isn’t known for its warm weather…but locals know it can really heat up in the summer months! Get out and enjoy the sunshine with these fun activities:

  1. Beach Day

Again…not something that comes to mind when you think “Vermont”. But, you’d be missing out if you didn’t check out one of the state’s scenic beaches. There are plenty off of Lake Champlain, and you can check out Branbury State Park, Lake Willoughby, or Lake Carmi State Park. Think mellow waves, mountains in the distance, and a warm breeze in the air.

  1. Hiking

It’s a classic for a reason. And before you scoff at the idea of trekking up a mountain in 80 degree weather, you should know that Vermont has a diverse selection of trails! Not just up mountains, but along rivers, lakes, farmland, and leading to waterfalls. Yes, there are plenty of incline-heavy options for hikers looking to sweat, however, those of us that prefer a shady walk on flatter ground are not neglected.

And if you’re interested in a more educational stroll, there are plenty of opportunities to learn about nature at Vermont’s state parks.

  1. Boating and Tubing

There’s nothing like a cooling off on the water during a hot day: a cold beverage in your hand and a gentle breeze on your face. You won’t regret picking up a tube at your nearest outdoor shop and taking a trip down the Winooski, White, or Battenkill River.

If you’re an experienced sailor, there are rental options to take an excursion on Lake Champlain in a sailboat. And if you want a more physically engaging water-activity that requires less background knowledge, Vermont has plenty of opportunities for taking a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard out onto one of its lakes, ponds, or rivers.

  1. Museums

Vermont has a unique selection of museums and learning centers to check out. Take a little trip and learn about science, art, and history. Dive into a special exploration of America’s art and design at the Shelburne Museum, get a hands-on science education at the ECHO Center of Lake Champlain, and explore the state’s quirky and unconventional side at The Museum of Everyday Life.

  1.  Cremees

It wouldn’t be a list of summer activities in Vermont without creemees. Living up to their name, creemees are (basically) soft serve with an extra creamy quality to them. Enjoying ice cream on a blistering day is a joy like no other, and they’re especially delicious in the state considered to be New England’s powerhouse of dairy farming. Plus, if you’ve never had a Maple creemee, you’re in the right place.

The warmer months here are something to savor so get out and enjoy them!
