How to Import Your New or Used RV Into Canada

RV Importing to Canada Guidelines

  1. Compliance with Canadian Safety Standards
    Ensure that the RV complies with Canadian safety standards, which may include modifications for certain vehicles.
  2. Obtain Necessary Documentation
    Title: Ensure that the title is clear and in your name.
    Bill of Sale: Required for proof of purchase.
  3. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
    Ensure the VIN is present and matches on all documents.
  4. Customs Documentation
    You will need to declare the RV at the border using the following Memorandum D19-12-1: Importing Vehicles into Canada guidelines D19-12-1.
  5. Payment of Duties and Taxes
    Duties and taxes may be applicable upon importation. Be prepared for this payment.
  6. Insurance
    You must have valid insurance for the RV that meets Canadian requirements before you can register it.
  7. Inspection
    The RV may be subject to an inspection by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) upon arrival.
