How to Use and Repair Your Airstream Air Conditioner

Cooling down your Airstream on a hot summer day of camping might not come naturally to a new Airstreamer. Follow these steps to make your Airstream air conditioner more efficient, and last longer!

When plugging in your Airstream, make sure the previous RVer using your power station shut off the circuit breakers before you plug in. Depending on the model of your Airstream, you’ll want to plug into the highest amp circuit breaker available that runs at or below your Airstream’s power capacity. For example, an Airstream Classic that can run a 50 amp plug parked at a power station with only 15 and 30 amp sockets available should run a 30 amp plug into that correct socket, and turn on the 30 amp circuit breaker. This will only allow one air conditioner to turn on, but will maximize the power available to you. 

Once you’re all powered up, go inside the Airstream to the control screen. The third thermometer on the screen should then be turned on, which will reveal your air conditioner controls. Change from auto to cool on the screen, and set it to the internal temperature you desire. Either one or both of your air conditioners will run, depending on the size of your Airstream and amount of power it’s plugged into. 

If you’ve done all this and your air conditioner doesn’t seem to be running correctly, head to your RV’s circuit breaker.

 Reset the button for the air conditioner you want to be running, and it should start up shortly after. 

When you leave your campsite, make sure to shut off your air conditioner first, then power off the circuit break you plugged your Airstream into before unplugging.
